The Dogs We Are Thankful For

Posted by Amy Hempe on

Dogs give us a lot to be thankful for.  They make us laugh, keep us company, and don't judge us for letting the laundry pile up.

Honestly, we are thankful for ALL dogs - the well-behaved and the naughty. But we're going to single out a few groups of dogs who keep us cheered up throughout the year.

1) The Office Dogs Thank the heavens above that some work places are enlightened enough to let our four-legged-fur-friends hang out. Their presence makes the day at work move by at a happier pace. Dog-petting breaks involve getting down on all fours and snuggling, and then rising covered with dog-hair. It is always worth it. While the office dog might not be our dog, that never stops us from buying a special treat or a toy for the critter who makes us smile when we think of Monday mornings at our desks.

2) Dogs in other people's cars. Commutes can suck. But seeing that a car with a dog in it has pulled up next to us - that can make our hearts swell up with all sorts of goo. The dog is happy, and we're happy that the dog is happy. A wagging tail and a nose out the window can make the drive in busy traffic seem worth it.

3) The Hero Dog Whether a dog has ushered ducklings safely across the street, alerted authorities to a child stuck in a tree, or aided police on a dangerous mission, these hero dogs capture everyone's hearts. They are well-trained, loyal to the very end, and braver than just about anyone. These dogs know their jobs and they are phenomenal. We learn about them when news stories about these heroes get shared by every dog-lover we know, meaning we come across them over a hundred times. That's no issue - we never tire of reading about them. These dogs have earned every second of attention they have earned.

4) The Couch Potatoes

Sometimes you gotta just hang with the pup. A few hours of slug time in front of the TV while binge-watching doesn't mean that your best friend has to be without you. These dogs just want quality time with their favorite person in the world. Of course, they'll make darn sure that they're comfortable - you can't blame them for that. They've perfected the slump against the pillow, know which cushion is the softest, and found the perfect corner to squish their but into to get cozy. Oh - you thought it was your couch? That's adorable.

5) The Loyal Dog Who Waits For You These puppers make every day a good day. Mondays feel less Monday-like when you have someone over the moon when you get home. The wiggling and dancing when you step through the door can make any bad day slip away into the past. These dogs are all about the here-and-now. You can't drop your briefcase and run to the back yard fast enough to start playing fetch. Nothing else matters when you have a dog that loves you more than anything.

Which dogs are you thankful for this season? Tell us in the comments below!
